Production and using renewable fuels for transportation is one access for a continuous power future for the United States, as well as the rest of the world. Renewable fuels may also to a large extent reduced participation to global climate change. In the transportation sector, ethanol production from biomass shows promise as a future fuel for spark-ignited engines because of its high octane quality. Ethanol, however, is not a high-quality pressure-ignition fuel. To identify the capacity of DEE as a transportation fuel, we operated a comprehensive literature review of its use in engines and also operated limited lab experiments. This paper offers the findings on fundamental engine and emissions performance of DEE, together with an guess cost of production DEE from biomass ethanol.
